Chapter 1

Chapter I
INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the Study
Most people who have experienced rejection can cause them distress, aggression or misbehavior. Rejection is the one of the most major problems in humanity. Most of the time. people at younger ages can affect their lives and it continues to grow the situation as they get older. People who had this kind of experience will cause them emotional pain and it may be possible that the person who will get rejected can act violently . When people got rejected, it can cause them fear or depression and get the result of being rejected can manage to attempt suicide, murder, bullying and other violent misbehavior.

In the article "Consequences of Peer Rejection," J. L. Cook discusses how peer rejection could have a massive impact on the adolescents life, especially if the rejection the adolescent encounters causes him some humiliation. The article also discusses some of the more extreme consequences of social rejection, which include school shootings.

Cook says, "Peer rejection is a powerful force in adolescent life, especially when the person being rejected is also ridiculed, harassed, or bullied. Although rejection leads to murder and suicide only in rare instances, it is associated with countless other acts of lesser violence, delinquency, isolation, and loneliness" (http://www.education.com/reference/article/consequences-peer-rejection/).

Rejection can also be a traumatic experience, and is, in fact a very common phobia. People are afraid to be judged, and in extreme cases a person's anxiety about how other people perceive him can be debilitating.

In the article, "Phobias: The rationale behind irrational fears," Dean Burnett discusses the influence and impact of this fear on human beings. He says, “The fear of rejection or judgement from others is a powerful force for humans; much of how we think and behave is calibrated around the views and behaviours of others" (http://www.theguardian.com/science/brain-flapping/2013/jun/28/phobias-rationale-irrational-fears).

It explains that people who had sensed fear of being rejected can cause them emotional pain like being punch on the face. If fear of rejection continues to develop, it might be possible that a person can gain more depression and get the result of misbehavior. People who had fear in rejection are being irrational of why they fear rejection. The reason for that is they sense that they are going to be rejection before it will happen to them.

Some other people found out that why they get rejected because people are nowadays are being too open-minded. If what people see from the person who is going to get rejected can possible that the person will be judged by their open-mindedness.

In this article "Why Great Ideas Get Rejected" by David Burkus. This article tells about the history of rejection of which Igor Stavinsky made his audiences to have a rion for having a terrible performance on ballet performers and how did he find the reason why the audiences rejected his work. It tells also about the reason why people reject other.

According to Burkus, “Most of us sincerely claim that we want the positive changes creativity provides”(http://99u.com/articles/7207/why-great-ideas-get-rejected). He was explaining that people needs to see something of what is beautiful in the society and they are trying to reject the person of which part of what they dislike about the person and that could be the reason people reject people.

Rejection can be also cause us emotional stress to us like breaking up with a relationship partner, being an outcast in a group of friends and other situations. Rejection can give emotional stress because we tolerate disappointment, depression and distress.

In this article "The Science Behind Why Rejection Hurts So Damn Much." This article tells about that rejection is strong intense of pain that the rejected will experience fear, disappointment, depression and distress. It can also give illness that will affect to the heart muscles because of the pressure. It also tells about that the for reason why rejection hurt so much because most people need it for their needs like they need it to survive for their lives.

According to Guy Winch “…rejection is such a strong emotion that the body actually registers the sensation as if it were a physical pain” (http://www.policymic.com/articles/56291/the-science-behind-why-rejection-hurts-so-damn-much).Which means that rejection is a strong intense of emotional pain as same as physical pain and when someone had experience this kind of situation, the person who got rejected will start to misbehave and inapprioriate behaviors because of toleration in negative emotional stress.

When people get the same situation like being rejected, it might be painful from the beginning but what they don’t know is rejection has benefits. Every single person had experienced of being rejected by others like getting fired on their job, broke up with the relationship partner, not being approved to ask to a prom date and other stuff that will predict that the person will get rejected. For example, Micahel Jordan had been the most famous basketball player in history but he was also part of being rejected, too. He got cut on the basketball league on his high school life.

Some people find it hard that most of them want to know how to make life things better when they got rejected. Having this background information about rejection will allow reader to reduce the fear of rejection and make a better attitude after being rejected.

To understand this situation, this paper focuses on explaining the possible benefits of rejection.
